Breaking News: Saskatchewan's Crop Production Soars to Unprecedented Heights in 2025!

Get ready to be amazed! Saskatchewan's agricultural sector witnessed a phenomenal year in 2025, with crop production hitting an all-time high of 41.9 million metric tonnes (MMT). This represents a substantial 13.7% increase compared to 2024 and a remarkable 24.1% surge above the average of the previous five years.
"Despite the hurdles many farmers faced during the growing season, Saskatchewan's overall production thrived this year, thanks to the resilience and innovation of our producers," stated Agriculture Minister David Marit. "This record-breaking production puts us within striking distance of our growth plan goal of 45 MMT by 2030." And this is the part most people miss... the goal!
The top-performing crops, in terms of volume, were spring wheat at 12.7 MMT, canola reaching a record 12.2 MMT, durum at 5.4 MMT, barley at 3.5 MMT, lentils also at a record high of 2.9 MMT, dry peas at 1.8 MMT, and oats at 1.8 MMT. Canola's record-breaking yield is particularly noteworthy.
Saskatchewan experienced significant growth across several key crops in 2025. Lentils saw a boost of 37.0%, canola increased by 16.7%, barley rose by 16.0%, durum saw an increase of 8.5%, and spring wheat grew by 5.3%. But here's where it gets controversial... What factors contributed most to this impressive growth?
The data from Statistics Canada's Saskatchewan estimates are based on a post-harvest survey of 7,198 farmers, conducted between October 3 and November 6, 2025.
